Domain Name Servers In October of 2008 NSNA made a decision to consolodate its Domain Name Servers (DNS) to allow us to add additional servers without having to be concerned as to the type of server, location or the applications that may be on a specific type of server. We had been using DNS registrations from the companies we were our servers were located. Using vendor supplied DNS was easy and convenient to a point. But as we grew, we found managing various DNS servers was increasing complicated -- for us and for our clients. It was not infrequent that we would make a change that was befeficial overall, but inconvenient for a few as they had to go back to their domain registrars and reconfigure the DNS based on our new requirements.

We have been maintaining multiple DNS ever since, while begging people to modify their DNS to point to our current DNS servers: NS1.ProFusionWebsites.com and NS2.ProFusionWebsites.com. 15 months after our initial change, we decided to pull the plug on the remaining remote DNS server. As of Feb 15th, any site or email account that is not pointed to the appropriate ProFusionWebsite.com domain or does not have either their A Record (website location) or MX Record (Email location) pointed to our DNS servers or appropriately configured A Record/MX Record your site or email may stop working.

In most cases, if we are handling both your website and your email, then just point your domain to our DNS and things will begin working properly again. If we are not handling both your website and your Email, and you have manually modified one or both of these records while pointing your domain do a different DNS then contact us if your email is not working correctly or your website is not displaying. Since we have multiple servers and various IP addresses of these servers, in most cases, it is easier just to point your DNS to our servers and let us handle the redirection of your mail if you have your own Exchange Mail server or use some 3rd party application for Email.

This is a part of our "Everything you need for the web in one place." Just let us handle it, then you only have one support ticket to place if things are not working as expected.

Image Resizing Since this original post by Patrice, we have added a very handy image resizing application to both the NSNA and ProFusionProducts websites. And we have recorded a training session on image placement. Check these out at:
www.profusionproducts.com/resizer
www.netsolutionsna.com/resizer
http://www.netsolutionsna.com/content/workshops/webinar_videos.asp

You can use the Ultra IS embed function to place either of the image resizer link on a page of your own website.

ProFusion Products Website Since we are not immune...
How about any of our ProFusion websites including this Forum, our support center (www.profusionsupport.com), our backup site (www.ProFusionBackups.com), our mailer site (www.ProFusionMailer.com) or our soon to be launched billing (www.ProFusionBilling.com) and schedule (www.ProFusionSchedule.com) sites. Introductions - They're all the rage! Donna,
I got older in Montana, then moved to Seattle and now live in Bellingham. I never have actually grown up. And I am so happy that you have posted. This forum is for dealers and users and not for staff. We have created the app and monitor it, of course, but it is for the users. I will ask Patrice to mention once again in an upcoming news letter that this Forum exists for people like you.

Thanks for taing the time to stop by.

Not sure where to put this... Donna,

This is a great idea which we will implement soon. We are in the process of redoing the ProFusion Family websites which include:
www.profusionproducts.com; www.profusiondealer.com; www.profusionbackups.com; www.profusionmailer.com; www.profusionsupport.com and www.profusionforum.com. The Support and Forum sites will not be rebranded but as soon as we get the other site content migrated, we will be sure to include a link to the Forum and a link back from the Forum to the primary ProFusion sites.

Thanks for the suggestion. Keep 'em coming.

Selling tips for non-salespeople Donna, you are full of great ideas. You are in fact in sales, however. All of us are selling everyday:
  • We're either selling a product or service (including ideas and conepts)
  • We are selling our companies
  • We are selling ourselves
So what is selling? Selling is asking, not telling. Selling is listening and not talking. It is all about providing a solution to a problem which is uncovered by asking questions and listening to what a person is really telling you. Our products are designed to be flexible in their application. Knowledge of how they work and can be combined will allow you to spend more time listening to a problem and then creatively using our products to provide a solution.

It is not about building a website or technology or hosting or anything other than the basics of uncovering a problem and then finding a solution.

We are here to help. I will monitor this thread carefully as I do have a lot to say on the subject of providing solutions to problems your customers are experiencing everyday.

Vertical Column On/Off on a per-page basis Good suggestion and one that we will implement in a future release, I am sure. Just do not hold your breath. In the meantime if you have a client who needs this functionality, we can always customize their app to allow this.
The challenge is that by default this show us on every page of the site when activated. You can add seciton page manger as an option now to allow you to modify this section on every page of the site. It assumes the default text unless you add custom content. Making this an on again off again function requires some additional changes but can be done.

Does this count as a feature? We like it when you sell a site. So I like that idea. Or you could just go to www.profusiondealer.com and request a demosite. Or you could just login to your Project Management System Control panel and use the demo site that has been set up for you. Check the overview tab for login info. If you need a module added to your demosite, just use the add module form on the ProFusion Dealer website. Give us a call if you do not know how to access your account on the Project Management System.

Does this count as a feature? Matching techincal terms, we have to "pop it in" after or during the site set up. It is a manual process, but anyone here can do it. We need the form to track the transactions, but you can call if you need it right away after the site has been set up.

The Counter Book - edits Donna,
I think I am in LOVE. Keep up the great work and thanks for noticing and posting. There can never be too many eyes on a project.

I am curious what version you are modifying however. Current version is 2.0. Seems like you are editing the 1.7 version.
Thanks again,
Bob

The Counter Book - edits Yup! 2.0 is the right one. And those are both issues on the current version. Noted and we'll get them corrected on the master.

How does one get certified? Pretty painless. You just have to take the Certification test and pass it with an 80% or better score. I will email the link to you offline.

Vertical Column On/Off on a per-page basis We use this trick all the time. Set up a page using tables with the layout you wish then simply copy and paste this page layout to any page you create. If you set up the initial page as a hidden page it is available to you if you know the page name. You can label these pages 2-column layout, 3 column layout, etc. and select them as you need.
Use of tables can also provide a unique look to a Rapid Deploy site without having to resort to custom design integration.
I will caution you that using tables requires a bit deeper understanding of layout and can make editing certain sections more difficult for non-technical users.
Enjoy your new found layout freedom.

Admin Section has been Locked A lock-out occurs when there have been multiple attempts to login using the wrong username or password. These are case sensitive and unique for every website. This is a security feature to lower the chances of an unauthorized attempt to gain access to the Admin control panel of the site.

There are 2 types of warnings: one tells you that the site admin has been locked for 2 hours. You can request that we manually unlock a site if you need immediate access. Otherwise, waiting for 2 hours will automatically allow several more attempts before the site would again be locked.

The other type of warning requires that you contact support for us to unlock your site. In this instance we have noticed a very high attempt at access without a successful login where one of the items (either password or user id is accurate).

Any successful login will reset the counter and allow a full compliment of error attempts between successful logins.

Secure Area Rich,
That depends on how the person is registering. If you are referring to a form you have created and the visitor is signing up, yes, you can specify in the forms builder tool to send a notification to the form administrator by placing the appropriate email in the field "Send Completed Submissions to". If you need multiple people to recieve notification, you can set up an Alias email account that will automatically send notification to all persons listed on that Alias.
If you have one or more secure user pages configured and you allow users to register via the Register link, notification is sent to the email address set up in the Webmaster Profile settings. Again, if this notification should go to multiple recipients, you can change this email address to an Alias account and direct responses to multiple people.

Let me know if this is not what you were referring to.

Info on recent upgrades Donna,
The changes are mostly organizational, but there are a few changes that can significatnly effect design and layout.
1. The Header Graphic Area is now an Editable Zone. You can continue uploading header images as before, but you can also use this section now to place Flash or other UIS modules like a content rotator, or slider image gallery. You can place text content, or use tables and place a contact form, or calendar icon, or survey poll, etc. in the Header region now.

2. The footer section page has been moved above the footer navigation. This allows you to place content you want on every page of your site above the footer navigation. This provides for more design elements placed in the footer section page.

3. The settings functions remain mostly the same, but have been re-organized to be a bit less intimidating. The Look and Feel section shows a framework display of your changes to allow you to more quickly identify and visualize the sections you are changing colors. Same with page layout tab. These changes make it easier to set up a new site, but will have little affect on existing sites as most users do not modify the settings once they have finalized them.

4. Help section About Us link now shows ProFusion not Net Solutions. This is still editable by the dealer. The background image has been removed.

5. Flash Scrolling Text has been completely removed when Flash Header is removed, eliminating an issue with sites that do not display Flash.

6. Ability to upload a Background Image as well as background color. If a user's monitor resolutons exceeds the image size, the background color will display on either side of the image for the area beyond the image size.

7. A couple of Editor/FireFox incompatability issues for dragging images and Line feeds.

8. Center Align Navigation not displaying in Safari, and Chrome on horizontal navigation.

9. Ability to turn off several functions with a single mouse click - i.e. Logo/Site Links.

10. XML sitemap upload function added.

11. Robots.txt file upload funciton added.

12. Favicon upload funciton added.

13. Google verification code upload function.

14. Admin lockout function for incorrect login attempts has been increased and improved.

Many of these features do not affect existing site but will provide more flexibility in new sites.

Roll Over Module Glenn,

A bit of creativity allows you to do this in the existing application. See: http://www.ymca-bc.org/ - the buttons in the upper right are doing what you request.

This would have to be done in the HTML code placement funciton of the UIS Editor plus some JavaScript placed and called.

This does require some knowledge of JavaScript and HTML in order to be done.

Providing a non-technical user the ability to upload a couple of images to create this type of effect is possible, but the requests are so few and far between for doing a mouse-over link that we have not been convinced that this is a highly sought after function.

I hope we can get some other users to chime in on this discussion.

Is that a light at the end of the tunnel...? The best way to get client to take sites live faster is to ensure that they have paid the vast majority of what they owe up front. Get a deposit of 50%, then once the design is approved get another 20%, then once the design has been integrated, get another 10% upon integration, and another 10% upon content completion of initial pages agreed to. Last 10% upon taking the site live. And any items added after the initial agreed upon items are out of scope (OOS) and charged additionally.

Will keep my fingers crossed that all goes well on the go live.

The Dealer site... I hope it is just you. I am attaching a screen shot of what the page is supposed to look like. If yours does not look like this, then maybe you can send a screen shot, along with what browser (type and version) you are using to view the page.

Secure Users Secure User function in the UIS was designed to provide access to users based on their username and password. Different levels of access can be provided to each user. But this is limited to accessing page(s) not for tracking user access to documents.
If this is the desired we have to track each user's login and what pages/actions they take.
You question about providing access to one or more pages based on user level and then allowing each user access to multiple PDF document links placed on that page is possible. However tracking which links a user has clicked to view is not possible without significant customization.
This client might be better off using our ProFusion Document Management System which provides access to certain folders and/or files based on username and password. Depending on permissions the users can download only or download and upload revisions and there can be tracking of revisions. Customizing this application to allow tracking of which documents were downloaded by a specific user would require much less work than re-coding the Secure User module.
